Anna Skowronski is the Buddy-to-Buddy January 2017 Volunteer of the Month! She trained into the program in 2013, and since then has been a reliably positive and committed volunteer.

Anna is assigned to the CO B 1-125 IN unit at the Saginaw armory. She has routinely attended drill there and has also been very dedicated to keeping herself up-to-date on resources and services to refer service members and veterans to by regularly participating in weekly volunteer support calls.

Anna completed a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from University of Michigan and then pursued her dream of joining the Air Force, the branch that both of her parents had served in. Anna served for five and a half years active duty Air Force and then two years in the Reserves working as an aircraft maintainer on KC 134s and 135s. One of her most cherished experiences during her time in the military was serving on the Honor Guard while she was a Reservist at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. Since separating from the military, Anna has worked primarily in production and retail positions.

She found out about the opportunity to volunteer with Buddy-to-Buddy from fellow volunteer David Thomas and Program Manager Stephanie Zarb at a veterans job fair event in Saginaw. Missing the camaraderie of the military and wanting to be in a position to help those in need, Anna jumped at the opportunity to volunteer. Since training, she has enjoyed attending drill and participating in weekly support calls. Some of the most memorable experiences she’s had as a volunteer have been assisting a service member who was grieving the death of a loved one and participating in the Mission Continues Operation Motown Muster service project in Detroit last spring. In her free time, Anna loves listening to music and is an avid reader.

Thank you for your dedication to helping others, Anna!
